Applied Animal Behavior
POSITION:
Applied Animal Behavior
Assistant or Associate Professor,
Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty.
This position has a 70% research and 30% teaching appointment. The emphasis of the position is in the area of applied animal behavior.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, independent and externally funded research program in applied animal behavior. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, individuals must have an externally funded research program and an established record of productivity. Areas of research must focus on the use of behavior to address current problem areas and contemporary issues in animal agriculture. Potential areas of research may include, but are not limited, to all aspects of social behavior, environmental design and management geared towards the improvement of the health, performance and welfare in species of agricultural interest. The appointee is expected to participate in the training of graduate and undergraduate students and will teach an advanced course in animal behavior at the undergraduate level, and a graduate course in their area of expertise. The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences has a vigorous program in applied animal behavior and welfare. The successful candidate will contribute to the expansion of the existing program and will have opportunities for collaboration with existing faculty members with interest in behavior as well as in other disciplines. The Department has 25 faculty and offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Molecular and Cellular Biology, Growth and Development, Nutrition, Neuroendocrinology, Behavior and Biostatistics are major areas of Department research activity.
Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in animal behavior or a related area. Postdoctoral experience, although not required, will be considered a plus. Candidates should have demonstrated ability or have shown the potential to establish an extramurally funded research program.
Salary/Benefits:
This is a tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package.
